I’m reading the autobiography of a self confessed racist at the moment …!!!...
…..and I bet your first thoughts are …. who could this possibly be ???.............
The title is a clue in itself , in that it implies that the person in question is not white- …..surprised ???……….. well not as surprised as you are going to be , and for anyone who takes notice of my reading list , this narrows it down even further , and no its not Richard Sorge – Stalin’s Spy – either :).
I’m still keeping this person’s identity very close to my chest - for the moment :)
I think we can all be narrow minded at times , especially if you are at the sharp end of people’s terrible attitudes and behaviour , but are we any better than they are - if we then blame all the people involved for a tiny minorities ignorance - i.e. brand a whole race of people as being bad .
This again - is part of the blame culture that we all indulge in to prove our point , but how far back do you want to go with this – The Second World War , British Imperialism , The Spanish Inquisition , Genghis Khan …………………….
…………oh f**k it - lets try the guy who tipped the money lender tables over ……
………..and bring religion in to the equation………..or maybe not :)
I always think the colour of the racists skin effects the way we all look at things , and looking at the person involved , and yes its …….Barak Obama ……. surprised……. ……. I’ll bet you are :) ,
Now after this revelation - I’ll turn it all around to - if it were some one who is white in question - would your opinion change - from oppressed to the oppressor - I just wonder , and again this is simply because of skin colour and all the taboos associated with it .
Regardless of who it is , and I personally don’t care if it’s a Llittle Green Man from Mars - any justification for ideals based on racism , must be in my opinion be at least be - personal and recent - none of which are apparent in the book – unfortunately , as you simply cannot use history or indeed , other people’s experiences as a reason.
My advice to him is ……f word optional ……………..
