The book / film 1984 is referenced quiet a lot in my writing for some reason.
I’m not sure why , as the storyline itself is of a totally and utterly depressing world and its oppressed by the government - inhabitants .
Saying that - I do think it does hold a key message –in that we simply cannot allow ourselves to get in that situation - probably by default………..
…………………..sleepwalking in to the future ………..
The storylines premise - that ….“ big brother is watching you” ….in my opinion is now looking like a harsh reality – today , simply because of what you are sitting staring in to at this very moment …………..cyberspace…… .
I’ve got no doubt that the ability to track its citizens actions , is of course every governments dream , but in a twist of irony we actually all allow it to happen by simply using a computer - me included .
Now with this in mind - I noticed that the government in the U.K. have been promising broadband internet for everyone in the country over the past few years , and what with people complaining a few years ago about Microsoft programming - access doors in to all of its operating programs – it does make me think ……………
I don’t think this is in the realm of conspiracy theories , from my point of view - merely facts , and there is of course a worldwide implication for all of this , with the fact you could have authorities from all over the world having the ability , to look in to your personal life , if they so choose
1984 itself was about groups of countries or blocs, and I just wonder if reality itself has taken this dystopian ideal one step further in to a worldwide scenario ……….
Just a thought……………….but as you have probably all realised by the title……..

I recently saw a program recently that featured modern art , and of course it had our two British darlings of Modernity - Damien Hirst and Tracey Ermin – featured , and this reminded me to say - I eventually went to see Damien’s Pharmacy Exhibit at our local gallery .
This exhibit actually consisted of a load of cabinets filled with pill bottles , and four plates of some kind of fibreglass material on plinths , although Trace’s new work was a jerky stop frame animation of a woman masturbating ……charming …!!!...
…………………….and hence the title………………….. :)
Now were back to the wisdom , which I usually attach to modern art , . and it goes ...
………………… “ its only art if it has no other use “ ……………
……..and of course I’m willing to take this thesis on a little further in saying –
I do agree with the above statement.

The thing is - if you then sell the piece of art , it instantly becomes a commodity , i.e. something for sale., so I reckon it can only be real art if its purely for exhibition purposes and not for sale – if you see what I mean :)
