The Defence of the Realm - An Authorised History of MI5 , which in a nutshell - details the goings on of the secret service in the U.K., since the very late 1800’s to the present , and it goes…..

To be honest - regardless of how this type of organisation is dressed up , the whole reason for the existence of any internal Security Service in any country is to keep the populous in check for their political masters…………sad but true …………...
This fact, which is certainly not hidden in the book , but in my opinion is very overly romanticised , includes - targeting pacifists in the First World War , to more recently - strike breaking – anyone mention the current and ongoing B.A.
dispute ……… :)
The policy itself is fairly simple , and mainly seems to centre around categorising people in to various heinous groups , be they Communists , Fascists or more recently - Terrorists, and if this failed - just throw a character slight at the victims , like calling people a scare crow or a tramp , and just remember this is an officially sanctioned book these particular slights are written in.
The next part of the process is you then pass this intelligence ( sic) on to your political friends , who of course – believe every word of it - sanction your actions - and away you go…………war ………or indeed ……….torture city …………….
……………..if the recent press accounts are to be believed.
I do notice that the female - anti nuclear protestors at Greenham Common only warranted a very small paragraph in this massive volume ,which is very odd considering what they achieved in the end with their own tenacity.
Now this lot were labelled – subversives !!! , but with no Communist , Fascist or indeed Terrorist links , which must be a nightmare for our unelected high and mighty , so they instantly became …………..
………Hippy Lesbian Weirdo’s with nothing else better to do - scrounging off the state … ……
………..or in my opinion a group of courageous and steadfast ladies standing up for their own beliefs…………………..
This policy of categorisation must be getting very hard now a days for our Secret Squirrel - mates , as you now have Mr and Mrs Average and fairly elderly people on anti war protests , alongside the usual spiked haired – Anarchists / Communists / Terrorist Sympathisers* ( *delete as applicable ) :)
So can I see a think tank operating to try and find an equally heinous label for them :)
