A question –
How do you normally start a formal letter , and this is not a trick question – I’m just interested .
Now - certainly in the recent past all letters were usually addressed - Dear Sir , with Madam being a fairly recent addition , although if you address a woman as being a madam- now a days , it usually means she is in charge of a house of ill repute :)
That aside - I usually start mine - Dear Sir / Madam , but this is apparently - sexist too , as the man is first , but sexism works both way’s , and we cannot have the woman first – either - a point the people who come up with this claptrap- oh so - conveniently forget
So what can we use instead , ok how about -
To Whom it may Concern - unfortunately this is a very stiff and impersonal way of addressing a letter , if I’ve ever heard one , and this type of beginning is usually concerned with complaints too , so it doubly gives off odd vibes right from the start .
Ok what about - Dear John - or maybe not , as you’d probably have people committing suicide before they had even read the letter !!!
Ok… ok… ok ………..what about ……..Hey Motherf**king Hoe !!! …..
…………although this is probably - racist and sexist- throw the n word in there and you have racist too :)
Right here’s my own personal favourite ( not ) –
Dear , Fellow - Non Gender Specific , Human Being of Various Creed , Colour and Sexuality , who May or May Not be Disabled………blah…blah…blah …………..
