Occasionally - you get a few of our guy’s working away on contracts , and they are usually expected to make their own accommodation requirements , and this of course leads to a whole load of confusion , and a long list of very odd places – booked..
I saw a brochure of the latest place they were intending to stay at , on some ones desk – today , and to be honest it looked like a 1980’s knocking shop , with the rooms probably hired out by the hour – if you know what I mean :) , but of course it gets even better with the recent history of the place - in which it was part of a police shoot out in a abduction and murder case , a few years ago…………………………
………………errrrr…… right …….ok ……:)
Evil Don was then winding everyone up , by saying the place was ran by once -
punk / pop star - Toyah , and I must admit the photo’s of the girls in the brochure do look ever so slightly like her - on a dark moonless night at the bottom of the sea - that is :)
I occasionally get the offer to go on these wonderful jaunts , but after the guy’s reckoned they got a date rape - drug , put in their drinks at another hotel a few years
ago - I declined , although the “ pop / punk - murder hotel “ seems strangely attractive after that one :)

British jobs for British People - supposedly :)
This seems to be an often heard- phrase from certain sections of the community here in the U.K. , but I do hasten to add - this Is certainly not confined to this country
only , and you can probably substitute your own countries name in to the above.
With the above in mind –
There was an experiment ran on a B.B.C. program a few day’s ago in which unemployed British people were given a chance to work the same kind of job’s that immigrants tend to do, but only for two days
You had the British candidates , and general people in the area , being interviewed by the B.B.C saying they - “wanted to work” and the odd racist comment about “immigrants taking their jobs off them “, “taking up all the local services i.e. health care “ ……etc….. etc…. etc…….
Which I suppose - rightly or wrongly are people’s opinions .
The real problems came when it all got down to it -
Several people did not even turn up for the work , two turned up late , and it seemed - the rest struggled fairly badly with different levels of effort being put in to the job , even though they all had the luxury of returning back to their previous lives after the two days , and as it turned out the majority of employers wouldn’t have given them a permanent - job – anyway.
Anyone who is remotely interested in history will be thinking …
.” ah ha !!! this happened in the 1950’s and 60’s “ …….when you had a massive influx of immigrants from various countries around the globe “ , and to be honest they were actually doing jobs - nobody in this country wanted to do , and it’s exactly the same now , regardless of what our right wing friends , would have you believe .
I’m not sure what the point of this program was - maybe to put right a few myths about legal immigrants , shut the extremists up , or expose the -
“I don’t really want to work “ – culture , probably a combination of all three , but I certainly cannot fault the way we are able to criticise ourselves here in the U.K. - that's for sure .

Dissident Society
I’ve got myself yet another hero to add to the extremely short list of two which I have accumulated over the years , and they just happen to be - The Women of Greenham Common , and the guy who stood up against the Chinese Army - tank in Tiananmen Square…………..oh yeah I nearly forgot my top hero …..Guy Fawkes :)
No seriously - this is highly unusual for me as I tend not to idolise people , but they are both sat there because I think - both of the above , were true exercises in courage and tenacity against the powers that be - but hang on a minute I hear you thinking……………
…….“ tenacity and courage !!! – isn’t that some thing the knights of old - did “ :)
Well maybe - but I’d say 99.99999 % of the people who come up against even minor authority - never mind a whole political system - just give up, so were talking
very, very special people – here - with or without the armour :)
Anyway - my new addition just happens to be in the ye olde - tenacity and courage
department :), and is a lady called Heather Brooke , who - and not to put too finer point on it - single handedly took on all of the establishment, through The Freedom of Information Act – to bring about the uncovering of the recent expenses scandal in the U.K.

Unfortunately - Heather’s actions were not widely known during the scandal, and seemingly not reported in the press at all , and at that time all her brave actions were all seemingly - grinding to a halt under the weight of bureaucracy, until a very naughty insider copied all the expenses details , and they were subsequently published in the press………..tsk…….. tsk …:)……..and the rest as they say – is history .
Heather is most certainly one of those extremely rare human beings , who are willing to stand up for themselves in the face of total adversity , and yes I do know its not life or death situation , but without principles - you may as well just go get a frontal lobotomy and a bar code burnt on your arm .

where's that - again ???
Now for you out there used to hearing my various - clap trap - trip reports , I’ve decided to be a little anarchic today and produce an anti travel log - if there’s such a thing – anyway there is now :)
Ok places I will NOT be going to this year include –

Day One

I will not be riding hundreds of miles in the rain on my Harley , standing in a cold wet muddy field for three days , paying for the privilege of getting - food poisoning
and / or dysentery , and of course …having to suffer the wannabee’s……YUK :)
The End

Seriously - the main reason for not going - is none of the above - as I’m sure you’ll all agree its all part of the festival “charm” :) , but the much more “serious” :) point of……… I have already seen the majority of bands on the bill – several times , and this is probably like a lot of you hardened rock fans out there.
Now - I’m not sure whether this is indicative of a stagnant music scene , or the fact it seems every old rock band under the sun , has reformed and then decided to
tour , and this one definitely falls in to the “ been there , done that , and ( literally) got the t shirt “ category , with me , and again - probably a lot of you out there .
I don’t mind going to see the odd old band , as I’ve said in the past , but when it gets to the point of the bill being full of them , sprinkled with the odd modern band you have seen several times , it becomes not worth it , especially as the ticket cost , travel . food … etc… etc… can run in to hundreds of ££££……….
Think I’ll just save my money , and go to several live houses in Tokyo - instead , to watch a Japanese hardcore band smashing the spotlights out with a microphone , in the equivalent of someone front room – much more entertaining – well apart from the glass in the face :)

Welcome to the (un) Real World
I picked up a couple of books from the library last week , and they were both biographies , and as usual the people involved were absolutely poles apart - but knowing me - you’d probably expect nothing else :)
The first one is about a guy called Richard Sorge , who is someone you have probably never heard of , but was in essence a dastardly Russian spy working in Japan – natch., and the second is about a bloke. called Barry - who you probably all know - and which we will get back to later………
Now for some strange reason - reading these books got me thinking as to how certain written material easily transfers itself to the silver screen , whilst certain other media i.e. movies based on computer games - seem not to , and this must have been further tripped off by The Hurt Locker , and not Avatar winning the Bafta Prizes
( movie awards ) in the U.K. over the weekend .
Now I absolutely love science fiction and yes - compute games – too , but for some strange reason I do not like the look of Avatar , which has despite its ground breaking effects - a very , very weak storyline , but apparently this is not stopping some fans of the movie being totally depressed , because they cannot live in a world like Avatar !!!.
Mind you - saying that not all kids who like gaming take it to those type of extremes, take my friends son - John , who is definitely from the Playstation generation , and has deformed thumbs to prove it !!! - he reckons like me , that Avatar is purely a
computer game and that’s where it belongs on a computer , which is what I tend to think .but as usual were in a tiny minority as Oscar fame awaits – no doubt :).
Oh yeah - the bloke called Barry that I mentioned earlier , and before I tell you , I’m just wondering if you can work it out , because I certainly couldn’t :)
Well this just happens to be one - Barak Obama , in case you were all wondering.
Barry being his pet name within his family:) , and it certainly fooled me – big style , as when I was reading the book , I was sat for a while thinking ……………..

A Cabinet of Curiosities
Wouldn’t it be nice to decide - you didn’t actually want to go to your normal , boring place of work , and instead go on tour like a rock band - living the rock and roll lifestyle of flash bombs and wrecked guitars , at various exciting locations somewhere near you ……continues … Spinal Tap, Rockstar , Almost Famous… et all … :)
Do you reckon your employers would let you do this , even if you gave them concrete assurances that you’d be getting wasted , shagging groupies and throwing television sets out of windows …….on the hour …..every hour……:)
……….errrr……..no …… sorry …….errr……..that would be …..
….working very , very hard every single day :)
No – Thought not - especially as your expenses for just one of these trips - to one single venue comes to an eye watering £150,000 …… hmmmm ….and that must be at least – Reading Festival – I hear you all thinking :)
Do you know that moment in the movies when the character is dreaming , and then the imaginary world just falls apart about him , to a stone cold reality , well this is one of those moments , and the rock artists become mere politicians who are holding Cabinet meetings in a school hall !!! , which is of course doubly ironic , as I’ve compared their behaviour in Parliament - akin to school children , on several occasions in the past :).
Pardon me - for over glamorizing the world of politics , but I reckon these poor guys need it , what with all the bad press they have been getting recently , the thing is I’ve now got to think of an appropriate name for the band …………….

Talking of politicians , a big shout to my old mate Obama , for meeting with the
Dali Lama or the “wolf in sheep’s clothing” , as our Chinese friends call him.
I tell you what - they must have some strange animals in China , rather like the ones that masquerade as tanks in Tiananmen Square for example , or maybe - the fabled electronic variety - that censor and crash Google - nothing like a few fairy stories – is there :)

Today Today
Well - today’s journey to work was absolutely - wonderful , and although it was frosty and minus three degrees , the birds were singing at six am , and yes there was a very feint , light blue tinge to the sky ……the .slippery slope to summer starts here , and even the odd half hearted snowflake couldn’t dampen that thought.
No - I haven’t fallen off my mountain bike and hit my head – either :)
The rest of the day was pretty average by comparison , although the highlight was Keith introducing himself to our new boss Donna ( Kebab ) as Clarence and this was without any hint of irony , thus she now thinks he’s actually called that :)
Hmmmm ……. I’m thinking….. that should be fun in the future, when Keith has forgotten he did it , and she addresses him by his new name - then he vainly looks around the room to see where this Clarence person is :)
Anyway - later on in the day, I had a knock at my door, and it was the guy from next door with a couple of bottles of wine and a box of chocolates ……………!!!.......
Errrrrr…….think I’d better explain – hadn’t I :)
My neighbours have just had an extension built on their house and this was a thank you for putting up with it all , although I suppose the worst bit was an occasional bit of dust on the car …………………….
…………………….and I just wonder what you were all thinking – here :)

[いいえ] -私は、マウンテンバイクから脱落していないと私の頭を打つ-のいずれか：）
ただし、ハイライトキースたちの新しい上司はドナ（ケバブ）クラレンスなどに身を導入し、この皮肉の任意のヒントをせずにいたので、彼女は現在、彼が実際に呼ばれるのだと考えてその日の残りの部分は非常に比較して、平均されたこと：）
うーむ... ...。私は思っている... ... ..は、将来的に楽しいとき、キースはこうだ忘れてはならない、と彼女は彼の新しい名前で、彼のアドレス-それから彼はうぬぼれて、部屋の周りに見えるが、このクラレンス人です参照してください：）
とにかく-後の日には、私のドアをノックがあったが、そのワインのボトルのカップルとのボックスで、次のドアから男のチョコレート... ... ... ... ... !!!......された。
Errrrrr ... ...。私はより良い説明と思う-は私ていた：）
ただし、私は最悪のビットは、車の粉塵の臨時ビットだったと思う私の近所だけの拡張子は家で作っていたし、このすべての上に置くことに感謝されたが... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...。

Back
Apologies for the temporary break in transmission , as what with my shoulder aching , added to the fact I couldn’t really be bothered – no excuse – but there you go :) .

as I found out recently that our children , supposedly watch far too many American television programs , and were in danger of becoming too Americanised , mainly in the language department

as I found out recently that our children , supposedly watch far too many American television programs , and were in danger of becoming too Americanised , mainly in the language department
The only problem was the examples they used to illustrate British kids television
were not very well chosen , to put it mildly , and included -

Victory is Ours.....or is it theirs :)
Well - I see Rage Against the Machine are playing a one off victory gig for their U.K.fans , and this is for getting them to the top of the chart's at Xmas , only problem is , i'll be in Japan - arigato - boys :)

Rite of Passage
I was talking several months ago about a 71 year old Indian guy from my part of the world who was a member of the Hindu faith - who in line with his own beliefs , wanted his body to be burnt outdoors after his death , in an ancient 4,000 year old rite. .
He took this to the High Court , and unfortunately lost his ruling in 2009 , but a subsequent appeal has now said he can , within certain guidelines, of course :).
You may be surprised to know open air cremations were carried out in the U.K. as little as 75 years ago, and that actually surprised me , as I always associate it with Vikings - sailing off to Valhalla :)
I know death and all the surrounding processes are one of those very , very divisive subjects , and I remember I joked at the time…....

Closed...............
I've decided to cancel - today , due to my mountain bikin mishap - yesterday , which has left me with a trapped nerve, and hence i'm typing this left handed.
So if there's anything you NEED to know , jut ask -
World hunger and war sorted out almost immediately , meaning of the universe takes slightly longer , just joking....... it's ......42........:)
Right i'm going before my arm drops off or you all kill me :)
Oh yeah - seeing as i'm off work today i was raking around the net , and found a site that gives video directions to all the various clubs around Tokyo
Big deal you may think, but these places tend to be on the fifth floors of buildings , and signed in Japanese , so it was little wonder - i walked past the rock/metal club - Antiknock four times before finding it - probably just me though :)

from snows to creativity
It’s what I’ll call half heartedly trying to snow here – y’know when it looks like the weather can’t really be bothered to snow , and wished it stayed in bed …..rather like me…..
Well I ended up very sideways on my mountain bike today , so turned round and went home , and called in to work for a holiday , unfortunately it seems so did the majority of my workmates as no one answered the phone till 10.00 :)
So I’m sat here at my comp’ writing his and watching the snow fall to the accompaniment of some good old cursing and swearing - rap music.
Now - for some reason swearing never , ever ceases to amuse me , and I found a version of N.W.A ‘s Straight out of Compton and F**k The Police on YouTube, but it had been edited so it was just the swear words and this had me in absolute fits :)

Talking of YouTube - I’ve got a bit of a personal project in mind to post on there .
I have the particular track in mind for the project - sat here ,which just happens to be my very own particular favorite from the C.D. , but I also have a very, very rare and unique insight in to the lyrics of the song , which should make the moving picture part – easier :)

Chop Cut Rebuild
I’ve stumbled across the above gem on satellite television the other day , and I’m only a mere six years behind on this one – never mind :)
This is one of those fly on the wall - car / bike rebuild and restore - type programs , but this one seems to be not mercilessly scripted like certain other
shows ……………
The main problem I have with the other programs, is the fact that this seems to be television playing with real people’s lives to simply amuse , and then as far as I can see - not shouldering any form of responsibility for the real life consequences it has created because of its actions .
I am aware that the labour laws and the way society behaves are different from country to country , but is stoking up tensions and creating non real world scenarios , until it comes to a head in a real life situation – acceptable ??? , especially when the boss finds out and it is at this point - several people have been sacked - which I assume is not scripted !!!
This - as I say is playing with real peoples lives, and to add insult to injury , I’ve got no doubt that you probably cannot even complain to an outside body - i.e. lawyer , about this or anything else in the show , as the television company will have all that all sewn up in the contract , which your boss has urged you to sign as its good for business - no doubt.
I do admit - I used to watch all of these programs , but from a builders/ engineering point of view , although I found all the ”goings on” within the shops to be fairly odd and off the point , but when it all started to blow up on a regular basis , and then you got for example - the owners smashing up valuable items – just because they can , well that was the end as far as I was concerned , as you simply cannot mix soap opera with real life in my opinion , because of the consequences.
Chop Cut Rebuild seems to stick with the building formula , and yes there are real characters in the show , but they are not hell bent on killing each other – scripted or otherwise …

I see our esteemed M.P’s are now being actually forced by their respective political parties to pay back the money they defrauded from the taxpayer , during the recent expenses row in the U.K……hence the advert above …… which I would not normally run , but these poor guy’s must be down to their last few million by now :)
Anyway - there is apparently still a deep reluctance within M.P’s ranks to pay this money back, and there has - amid all their arrogant bluster - been talk of court cases to stop them paying back their ill gotten gains.
Hmmmmm………criminals using the justice system - probably at the taxpayers expense, to stop themselves handing their stolen money back , what ever next - the authorities asking bank robbers to pay their stolen money back , and that would be the end of it all – surely not :)
There is I suppose a good side to this , in that - none of the political parties in this country remain unscathed by this scandal , so absolutely none of them can take the moralistic high ground on this issue – thank heaven :)
In view of all of the above - I saw a highly apt phrase a while ago - which went along the lines of……………
…………Guy Fawkes was the only honest man to ever enter Parliament …………..
………and I just wonder if he was maybe going to buy the duck house… :)

Food for Thought
Well me and my big mouth – going on yesterday about how quiet it was yesterday- only to have a new boss start today ………………
This was sprung on us all , but the lady in question introduced herself as Donna , so informal it was :)
Now Keith - one of my workmates has got an even worse memory than me , but uses very silly things to help him remember , and in this case he unfortunately chose Donna Kebab , which is a type of junk food that you usually have after ten pints of beer on a night out – to help him remember Donna’s name.
Which is fair enough on the face of it , but its Keith were talking about here , so we are just sat waiting for him to call her………………………

I’m not really in to what I will call the “meeting culture” at work , as to be honest it tends to be a self perpetuating - waste of time , which seems to be further proved as they always end up as -
………meetings about meetings about meetings ………
......if you see what I mean :)
I do however - attend he odd Union meeting with our Directors , and various Health and Safety gatherings , as these tend to be of a short duration , and actually get something positive done , as a result
I’m usually put forward by staff for these particular functions , and its in my opinion its the greatest honour , that people actually trust you enough to do this , so I can’t really refuse – can I :)
There are of course the professional meeting goers , who seem to attend every single meeting possible , but just sit and say nothing , well except agreeing to the date of the next meeting – of course :)
One of our guy’s put a newspaper clipping up a while ago , which was written by a Chief Executive , and was actually slamming the meeting culture in general.
This clipping sat on the notice board for all of about …hmmm…..five minutes , until our red faced boss - not Mrs Kebab I hasten to add - turned up , demanding to know who had put this article up .
I don’t think this clipping was put up with anyone in particular in mind , but it certainly seems to have hit the target , hence our little red faced friends - vast over reaction to what was a simple newspaper comment :)

So far , today seems fairly quiet , what with the “ excitement “of battling to work through the snow and black ice on my mountain bike , and adding to that was the fact the lights weren’t on the cycle track !!! , and then of course - nearly getting 20,000 volts up my ass – yesterday :)
Hmmmmmmmmm……..why do I get the sneaky feeling that today - I’m probably being lulled in to a false sense of security by the powers that be , as the local maniac jumps out and embeds an axe in the back of my head :)
Well................ still nothing going on , so I’ll pass a few controversial comments to get things stirred up , thus proving the old adage ….

I’m sat here shaking my head at the irony of The Pope , who is head of a religious organization that tortured and killed its way through The Middle Ages , collaborated with Fascism in the 1940’s, abused children and subjugated women all through its modern history - criticising laws in the U.K. that promote equality.
Bricks and glasshouses – gentlemen - is all I’m going to say here.
Still bored…….shall I go and get my Trident ……
…………….that would be my 1970’s Triumph motorcycle , and I’m not sure what you are all thinking - a medieval weapon used to prod sinners – probably………

Boredom is a strange thing , as I’m now wondering as if by a strange quirk of fate there is actually a heaven and hell , and whether I should be repenting my sins , but then the word hypocrisy springs in to my mind , and the fact I can commit any number of heinous crimes over and over again , but I’m instantly forgiven for it all , if I confess.
Too easy a way out for ruff tuff mountain bikin’ , electricity repelling guy like me….

Hmmmmmmmmm……..why do I get the sneaky feeling that today - I’m probably being lulled in to a false sense of security by the powers that be , as the local maniac jumps out and embeds an axe in the back of my head :)

They say lightning never strikes twice ……….
Well I think I’ve dodged it twice - in the metaphorical sense - of course :)
I’m usually first in at work , hence its normally pitch black in our building , and on this particular morning – several years ago – as I went to switch the light on , I heard a strange noise and hesitated slightly as the air felt humid - almost electrically charged - like before a thunderstorm.
So I momentarily stopped myself , and this feeling could have saved my life , as water had been dripping from a leak on to the switch , and there was a flood of water on the floor under it – one more step and I was probably frazzled ………………………
Well - I had the self same feeling today , and guess what it had happened again - leaky pipe on to the switch , with a big puddle of water !!!
The first time was just simply a leaky pipe and nobodies fault, but this particular incident had a saga attached to it , which I will gloss over, but to be honest the cause this time , looked like sheer irresponsibility to me , and this was something that could have resulted in serious injury or even death , if I hadn’t had my wits about me.
