I was out on my drive way last week , and I heard some body shouting something, although it didn’t seem to be a word , but more like attracting attention to themselves - which sounds a little odd - but bear with me.
The shouting got closer , and I realised it was a couple of guy’s riding round in a battered white pick up truck , which was absolutely filled to the top with what seemed like rows and rows of used electrical items from fridges to cookers.
I’m not really old enough to have experienced the forerunners of these two characters in the truck , but they were called - “ rag and bone men “ ., and certainly in the dim – distant past , they toured towns and cities collecting things other people didn’t want on their horses and carts.
I’m not sure when this profession died out , but the B.B.C had a comedy program about two such guys set in the early 1960’s / 70’s , entitled Steptoe and Son , and as I say its something I have personally never encountered.
I’m just wondering if this has been revived as a “sign o’ the times” type of thing - what with the world in recession , and had these two enterprising gentlemen introduced a more modern version of an ancient profession :)

Uh – Oh ……….I think I’ve passed in to local literarily history - here , with one of my - off the wall phrases.
Now we’ve all heard the phrase “ watching paint dry “ , which is usually in connection with something extremely boring , well I’ve gone one better……….
……………. “ listening to paint dry “ …………………
Which in all honesty , has been coined with all the useless - blatherer’s and spieler’s out there in mind – I’m thinking politicians and businessmen here ………
……..or am I being too harsh ………… yet again :)
Saying that - I personally dislike using unnecessary words in both written and oral communication , so can come across as personally being - short , sharp and to the point , which invariably shows in this and the other articles I write……
