Welcome to the Modern World


Modernity

Now there’s a word I’ve never come across , but in the space of two days I’ve heard it twice - which I thought was fairly unusual – considering .

Now - both times it was in connection with Art Deco and that era , so I assumed it referred to that particular style as being of a modern type , but I always thought
Art Deco - and yes I’m sure the hordes out there will disagree with me totally :)
- was futuristic looking for the time , so went off to do a little research .


The problem is - now I’ve read the Wikipedia explanation of modernity , I don’t understand it :) , and this is mainly because it rambles on about sociology and all sorts of stuff , but I had a brainstorm today and typed modernity in to my computer whilst in Word - then consulted the thesaurus , and the explanation was ….

…………………”the quality of being modern or up to date”……………………….

So my initial thoughts were correct – for once in my life :) , but the word I thought , had been used incorrectly , that is - if you agree with my futuristic interpretation of Art Deco , so I though I’d make up a word that suited , and that is ……errrr………

Farflungism ( far - flung - ’ ism )

Noun - used to describe future styles , not necessarily placed there by human hand , as the purely literal translation - affords , but existing in a quasi spiritual context - intrinsic to the social and economic fabric of ( future ) society , and wholly coexisting with ………..

I some how don’t think it will get in the Oxford English Dictionary – do you :)
