I was talking about avoiding going to pointless meetings the other week , but unfortunately - being a Union Rep’ - I sometimes get volunteered………..
………..kicking and screaming …..of course………….:)
So today’s particular meeting was a Sustainability Group , which is something I do agree with in principle , but unfortunately this type of subject always seems to attracts all the nutcases .So - amid all the usual agenda items , there was a suggestion that was put forward which left me absolutely and utterly - speechless.- for once in my life :).
This was suggesting in all seriousness -
“ That people all use bicycles to get to the airport when they go on holiday ...!!!.....”
Yes that’s right - forget the practicalities of the matter like the fact that our nearest airport is a “mere” 30 miles away , and the fact you are probably carrying several heavy cases - illegally , just spend several hundred Pounds on bikes for you and all of your family , and just pedal there.. ….…………simple ………..
Sorry - I can just imagine the scenes of total and utter - carnage and death as the nations holidaying families set off - day’s or even – weeks before their flights - , several heavy cases perched on their heads , with trucks screaming past - little Jenny’s pink bike with stabilisers , lagging several miles behind the rest - at 80 mph
Now as you all know - I mountain bike to work 365 days a year - if possible ,
……….so I mentioned the above fact to “ Mr Bicycle to the Airport “ , and then asked the question…………….
……………..” what about the other 364 day’s ??? “ ……………….
Fully knowing that the guy who was making the above suggestion , was one of the mindless hordes who drive a mile or so , to work and back , in a car with no other occupants…………
Ripping the planet apart for the majority of your life , and then appeasing your own conscience by trying to foist - idiotic “green” ideas on others , is something politicians have done for years , as you only have to look at the current election campaigns wasting money on candidates flying or driving around in chauffer driven limo’s - who will then turn around and lecture you about ………
………………..” saving the planet “ ……….!!!.....
So this idiotic ethos , has obviously now filtered down to ill informed moron on the
street , who must think its ok to spout this garbage , as they have seen politicians do it on T.V……and of course it must be right ……mustn’t it :)
Now I’m all for ideas , discussion and suggestions that actually improve life , but to be honest this is just the kind of crackpot suggestion , that certain sections of the community absolutely love, and will take deadly seriously unless pointed in a slightly different direction – like over a cliff – maybe :)
