Well - its like turning the clock back - years , what with Royal Navy warships turning up at various ports around the world to pick up bedraggled - U.K. citizens , who are stuck in the proverbial “ corners of foreign fields ” :)
I’m not due to fly out to Japan for a while , as I said yesterday , but I thought I’d check what the procedure was as regards cancellations , and it seems I can re- arrange my holiday or get a refund ., although I think I’ll wait a while before pressing the panic button :) .
I’m actually travelling with one of Britain’s best companies - Virgin Airways / Holidays , and whilst I don’t normally endorse people , services or products on here , I would like to say they are really excellent in both service and ethics .
Talking of airlines - I jokingly mentioned - yesterday , about Willie Walsh - Chief Executive of British Airways - trying to sue the volcano for loss of earnings , and in an ironic twist of fate he is in reality - now trying to sue The E.U. for keeping his planes grounded .
The question is if it’s safe to fly - according to Mr Walsh - I just wonder why British Airways planes are now sat on the airport tarmac , with plastic bags wrapped around their engines …….makes you think…….doesn’t it ………..
Never mind Willie - I’m sure the good taxpayers of this country will bail your private little profit making empire - out , rather like they did the banks , but hey – what’s a few more years of suffering – yet even more Government cuts , to the taxpayer – anyway !!!
Just for a laugh - I was looking at the route you could drive to Japan – overland , and I worked out you can probably get as far as Eastern Russia , where it seems the roads actually turn in to swamps , although there is of course - several hundred miles of ocean between Russia and Japan too :) .
Hmmmmm……I’m just thinking if I do this - I could swing by - Iran , Iraq , Israel , China and Burma on the journey out - just for a laugh - course :)
So if any of my friends out there in the far flung outposts around the world, see a Harley with U.K. plates being driven along at high speed , with a ……………..
