I was actually surprised that we are now supposedly - able to start sentences with the words ………… “ and ”…….and….. .” because”
Like for example , and it took me ages to come up with these -
“ And I was thinking today that I haven’t been to any gigs recently , unlike last year when I went to see quiet a few “
“ Because the fact is - no band’s seem to be touring at the moment - that I like”
Taking away the fact that I was personally - taught not to use these two words in this context , as they are joining words in correct English , plus the fact - I would not usually walk in to a room , and start a verbal conversation with these two words – either .
I suspect that this change probably has something to do with the “dumbing down process” that seems to be going on as we speak , although if you look at it , allowing this useage is not making it easier at all , as you just skip these words- altogether , and just use the next word in the sentence - i.e………………
“ I was thinking today …………..”
“ The fact is – no band’s ……”
………….I’ts actually easier, if you see what I mean .
So maybe it’s an anti “dumbing down” measure – although I some how - doubt it :)
