1…2…3…4…5…

I’m just wondering here - have I got a five second attention span …???........

…continues later ……………………

….or is the television adaptation of sci fi novel - Flashforward…………

….continues later ……….:)

…just a rubbish soap opera …………

…continues….much ….much …..much….later …:)

Yes that’s right I’m disillusioned after only one and a quarter episodes !!!

…hmmmmm …..only 23 and three quarters left to go …….

…… or in my case…. NOT ……:)

I was also initially impressed with the new Stargate Universe (SGU) series , which was great until the third episode - when the crew including the jackbooted military started recording the… “were all going to die “ !!!!! ….....videos for posterity. !!!

You may have guessed by now - I’m not in to heavy relationships which have absolutely no bearing on the storyline in science fiction , develop characters - yes , but keep playing the same old “pass the bucket” – scene over and over – again , as in Flashforward , or in the case of SGU - have people behaving as if they are in a 1980’s soft focus - soap opera , instead of hurtling through the galaxy – no.

I personally like sci’ fi’ to challenge my own intellect and perceptions, which is purely escapism from my point of view , but you can go too far , and have storylines which disappear up their own self importance .

I’m thinking Donnie Darko and its ilk - here , as I’ve had this particular story explained to me several times and I still haven’t got a clue - although this is probably just me - as I also tried to understand the concepts of time travel once , and got lost after the first paragraph :)

I reckon that if you are going to make anything in this type of style , you must make the storyline out of this world but not too convoluted , as that’s what its all about - fantastic worlds , scenarios and creatures - which challenge your own intellect , and no you needn’t have flesh shredders like in Alien or Predator - just different - will do .

My favourite sci’ fi’ author - Arthur C Clarke , who was also an eminent scientist - theorised that the majority of planets in the universe are not earth like so its inhabitants will certainly not be humanoid , and you can’t get much odder than a black stone obelisk – can you :)
