When ever I go to Osaka , I tend to get the very early Shinkansen ( Bullet Train) train from Tokyo as this gives me more time- there , and I always think The Tokyo Metro to the station will be empty at 5.00 am on a Saturday morning – wrong – as usual :)
It certainly beats me where people are actually going / been , this early in the morning as it was standing room only , although the upcoming , ultimate ride of The Bullet Train kept me distracted from the crush., and at least it was too early for the guy’s with the white gloves pushing you – sardine like in to the carriage :)
Talking of video’s - I actually got around to filming part of the trip this time , although you cannot really appreciate the 400 mph speed unless your actually sat on the train , so please go experience it or yourself , and again I’ve described my trip on The Bullet Train in previous travel logs , so I won’t bore you all – yet again :)
Atsu was waiting at the station , and I was whisked off to Nara - which is a temple and park , complete with hordes of semi tame deer wandering around , the problem is if you feed them you are surrounded by 20 or so – deer - thank heaven for the elderly Japanese lady and the brush ………………
Lunch was at a restaurant I’ve cheekily christened …….
………Meaty all you can Eaty………….:) and consisted of food till you exploded .and of course we did , with Atsu insisting on a taxi to the station- afterwards
The unique thing being about “ Meaty all you can Eaty” actually called Viking which I assumed meant you can eat like a Viking – minus the horned helmet and ship of course , was a gas burner – read - Viking campfire :) set in the middle of the table - so you cooked the food - yourself - cue Atsu nearly burning the restaurant down – several times :)
Then it was back to Nara for a Summer Festival , which was best viewed at night as all the stone lanterns were lit around the temples with candles , a really magical experience….which again - surprisingly captured on video …….ah the wonders of modern technology :):
The hotel I stayed in was excellent, except it has the worlds smallest bath , which I very nearly got stuck in :) , although there was a phone in the bathroom so I could have called the front desk……….help …help…. in stuck………………..

The following day - Atsu also took m to a place called the Sky Garden , which is basically a skyscraper with cut away sides , external lifts and glass covered escalators that take you right to the top ……….very impressive ……and I actually remembered to video this too :)
Then it was on to lunch with her parents…………..
I felt I really had to really , really make an effort with my chopsticks , although Atsu had an “ emergency “ set of knives and forks in her bag.- which would probably be considered offensive weapons in the U.K. as the knife blades were probably six inches( 15 cm ) long and had a vicious serrated edge !!! .
I’ve mentioned before I find it difficult to actually hold chopsticks due to an injury on my arm , but I just went for it this time - never thought about it and even her dad seemed impressed , especially as I was eating octopus and squid at the time :)
