So fond farewells to Osaka and Atsu - hopefully she will visit me again next year , as I’ve been talked in to going to Egypt , but will certainly return to Japan the year after .
The main new gadget in Tokyo seems to be 3D television , which looks good at the first viewing , but whether or not you can be bothered to wear the cumbersome glasses that go with it remains to be seen , and I think this will probably go the way of Betamax Videos , unless they can come up with a new system.
Talking of technology - I have been threatening to upgrade my camera to a Nikon D3X recently , well that was until I actually got a feel for one – that is :).
Unlike the U.K. - cameras and other goods , are just sat on the shelves for you to pick up , look at and try out , so I tried a D3X for size………….. .
Discovering to my horror, that it is well over double the weight of my current D90 , and feels like you are carrying a lead brick about , which is no good for someone like me who sometimes can’t be bothered lugging his D90 around, so I think I’ll invest in some new lenses instead , but not in Japan as the awful exchange rate nearly doubled the prices of everything from last time I was there..
Now - seeing as Tokyo is the safest city on earth I decided to venture out at night on a photography mission , thinking that it would be cooler in the evening – wrong :) , and of course I’d forgotten how quickly it got dark there too , so it was on to the metro in sunlight and off in the dark :), which was absolutely perfect for the night shots around Odaiba ( Tokyo Bay) which was absolutely deserted , compared to the daytime.
With several shots taken - I returned To Shinjuku and sat on the wall near the terrace garden of the station , noticing that the queue for Krispy Kreme doughnuts did not extend the 200 or so Meters across the bridge , which it normally did ……

So I was sat there for a while , when I was approached by four Japanese galz -
…….and .no not that sort ..:…..) , who wanted comments on their holistic healing business ……..
…….ye gods ….this is sounding even more dodgy as time goes on ……isn’t it )
It was the usual story of they could speak a little English and me a tiny piece of Japanese , but as I’ve found out , you can circumnavigate the language barrier if you really try.
It’s nice to see - the trust element in Japanese society still seems to be there - as I mentioned the above cameras lying around , but you also get people just leaving their laptops / cell phones - just lying as they go to get another coffee , and I have in the past , seen Harley’s left parked on the street with their keys still in them – unbelievable :)
This is definitely the difference between a trusting and non trusting society , and putting this is perspective with the U.K. - after looking at the many
“ money with menaces” signs that litter U.K. public transport for example .
I reckon the people instigate these signs , should be dropped in to a country with a completely different culture , with an inability to speak or read the language - fluently , and then put them in a queue for train tickets , with a gang of locals in a hurry - stood behind them :)
