I got a letter through the post yesterday from the blood transfusion people
( who collect blood donations for you non U.K. folks ), pointing out that there was a shortage of blood and would I consider donating again .
Now some of you may know - many years ago I seriously damaged my wrist , and to be honest about it , the blood loss nearly f**king killed me , hence since then and up until a few years ago I’ve always been a blood donor, despite the fact I absolutely and utterly , detest needles .
That was until the unfortunate fact that our health service is slowly but surely being turned in to a money making business which is ran by penny pinching accountants, and this rightly or wrongly , stopped me donating.
A decision I did not take lightly - believe me , as some unknown persons unselfishness in the past certainly saved my life for what its worth , but unfortunately - it sticks in my throat that the fact the public are expected to freely donate blood in to a system which is not ran for their own well being , but for profit .
I certainly don’t want paying for my blood , merely to give it and use it in the way it was intended i.e. in a caring system .
This is still a real dilemma for me as you can probably see , so don’t be surprised if you see me on a table near you getting drained of my morality - hopefully :)
There is a funny end to this - as I was going home on my bike I was nearly ran off the road by a van bearing the legend NHS – Give Blood !!!, I caught up with the van and jokingly said to the driver……………
……………… “do you want my blood now or can you wait “,,,,,,,,,,,,,:)
